Heal & Hustle Council

A collaborative initiative of Collab4Good, the Heal & Hustle Council has been formed to provide inclusive leadership in South Australia’s COVID-19 recovery in a way that considers the opportunities and challenges faced by South Australians of all backgrounds.

As a Council, our aim is to work together to identify, consolidate and respond to existing, new and emerging challenges faced by the community, and to enable new ideas, ways of being and ways of doing things to emerge.

Our intention is to identify and implement one key action per quarter that will make a significant difference to the lives of South Australians.

Our Story

In March 2020, South Australia’s Premier Steven Marshall set up a Response & Recovery Council for advice to support him in the recovery, and during the period of Covid-19.

The Premier’s Response & Recovery Council includes thirteen people, representing business, property, retail, construction and housing to tourism, food, and hospitality. It is said that the Council will tackle the state’s “greatest economic emergency” to protect jobs disrupted by the virus.

Whilst we applaud the Premier for taking swift action in addressing the significant economic impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic, we know that for the state to respond and recover to its best possible ability, there needs to be leadership and broader remit that regards so much more than the economic emergency faced by industry.

We also know that there needs to be a diversity of voices at the leadership table. We are disappointed that the Premier’s Response & Recovery Council is made up of twelve men and just one woman.

The Premier’s Response & Recovery Council has more men called Ian on it than women!

We know and all wish the one woman the very best in this work and are right behind her!

In response to this gap in diversity in leading the response and journey to recovery after Covid-19, the Heal & Hustle Council has been formed to also provide advice to the Premier, as well as to actively contribute to positive systemic change, based on the needs of everyday South Australians.

The Heal & Hustle Council’s aim is to work collectively and locally to identify and respond to new and emerging challenges faced by the community and to support and enable new ideas, ways of being and ways of doing to emerge. The Council will identify and implement one key action per quarter and reflect on their actions and impact as they move to the next.

The Heal & Hustle Council held its inaugural meeting on Friday 22 May 2020
